Parent group psychotherapy for the parent who had child with attachment disorder

Abstract
The purpose of this case study was to investigate the effect of parent group psychotherapy in treatment for the parents of children with attachment disorder. The target child was 2 years of age and diagnosed as having attachment disorder by psychiatrists and clinical psychologist and his mother participated in group psychotherapy for parents. The results obtained were as follows:
First, the score of working model of child representation of the mother in group psychotherapy was improved. The changes in perception, openness to change, intensity of involvement, coherence, and caregiving sensitivity showed improvements. Second, after the treatment, the mother-child interaction score was improved. The score of mother¢¥s emotion, intrusiveness, attention, sensitivity, responsiveness changed positively. Third, as for the depression, marital adjustment of the mother and the maternal stress, no significant differences showed at the pre-post tests. Finally, the intensity of child¢¥s disorder was improved in several parts of development areas such as individuality, language, sociality, fine-motor and gross-motor movement from DDST.
In conclusion, parent group psychotherapy turned out to be useful for improving mother¢¥s internal representation and mother-child interaction with attachment disorder.
